    A Little Background...

Rob Thomas was actually born in Landstuhl, West Germany, on February 14th, 1972. His father was in the military, but the family moved back to the United States when he was six months old. His parents divorced when he was just two. He ended up living with his mother and sister, who bounced from place to place in poverty. He grew up listening to country music and idolizing people like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. Listening to these people is what made him want to write songs. His childhood was extremely rough, with his mom often being really abusive, but when he was twelve, his mother was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. His sister ran away and got married, and Rob was left to take care of his mother who was given six months to live, but she miraculous ended up going into remission. Thomas dropped out of high school a few months before graduation. He would eventually be arrested for stealing a Camaro and spend two months in county jail at the age of seventeen. After getting out of jail, Thomas was homeless for several years, bouncing from place to place, staying with friends and hitch hiking around Florida and South Carolina. It was in this time that Thomas really began writing songs in earnest. He began connecting with several local musicians and played in a few bands. When one of the band's he was in, "Tabitha's Secret" broke up while they were in negotiations for a record contract, Thomas panicked and quickly reformed a new band with some of the members of, "Tabitha's Secret" as well as rhythm guitarist Adam Gaynor and lead guitarist Kyle Cook. This new band formed "Matchbox Twenty". Rob Thomas with Taylor...

Rob Thomas plays a 710ce that was made in 2014, with a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood back and sides! We have a very similar model as a Taylor Dealer, in our 710e Western Sunburst, with the differences being the 710e Western sunburst has a Lutz Spruce top and is lacking the cutaway.
