  • Larrivée Guitars: New Models In Stock!

    July 06, 2019 4 min read

“To me, building guitars was my destiny. It’s something right from the beginning that was like a calling.” - Jean Larrivée

Larrivée Guitars is not only known for their craftsmanship, incredible inlays and 50 plus years in the guitar making industry, they also are one of the best valued boutique guitar brands on the market. Jean Larrivée’s road to success is a fantastic story ( read my blog here! ) and today I’ll be showing you a few guitars available right now at Heartbreaker Guitars.

First up is theLarrivéeLV-03.  The 03 Mahogany Recording Series ismade right here in the United States.  The exceptional build quality begins withall solid woods starting with the Sitka Spruce top. This particular model features Larrivée’s custom Summer Sunsetcolor with a tortoise shell pick guard, a visually stunning instrument to say the least.  The L body measurements of this model are found only with Larrivée guitars with the bottom of the guitar looking much like the familiar dreadnought, and the the top of the body matching that of Larrivée’s smaller 000 body style.  The solid mahogany neck, which is hand-fit with a dovetail joint, matches the beautiful mahogany back and sides.  The satin finish of this 3 series is striking in person.  Both holding and playing this guitar leaves the player with a very pure and true experience with the natural look and feel of this LV-03.

Complimenting the quality woods of this guitar is beautiful maple binding on both the body and ebony fingerboard. This guitar 3 series also features custom Larrivéetuners, bone nut and saddle, ebony headplate and bridge, standard 25.5” scale length, a nut width of 1-3/4” and X bracing pattern. Seeing this guitar in person allows anyone to see and feel the incredible attention to detail Jean Larrivée and his company put into each and every guitar. Playing this guitar, however, may leave you a bit more intrigued. Whether through science and technology or half a decade of trial and error, the volume and sustain that this guitar puts out is impressive.Ideal for any style of playing, this guitar is an incredible bang for your buck.

The Larrivée OM40-R.I’ve enjoyed just about everyLarrivéeI’ve come across, but this guitar has a special place in my musical heart. Not only can I not find anything wrong with this guitar, but it’s styled perfectly for my taste. This OM is part ofLarrivée’s 40 Rosewood Legacy Series. Introduced in 2013, this is the first series Jean allowed to make waves with decades of tradition. These models feature what’s called “scalloped parabolic hybrid” bracing. As you can see in the picture, not only has the bracing shape itself been modified, but it’s been slightly relocated in an effort to allow more movement of the tonewood it’s attached to.The reviews have been consistent with the combination of the OM body style (comparable to Taylor’s Grand Auditorium) and new bracing profile giving this guitar a significant increase in volume, especially on the mid and lower end.The styling of the guitar is a bit of a throwback, with the vintage-style, flat head stock and open-gear tuners. This specific OM40-R features a beautiful, grainy Sitka Spruce over a magnificent, dark Indian Rosewood on the back and sides.

Like the previous model, this 40 series features a satin finishallowing the contrasting elements of this guitar stand out. Around the edge of this OM40 is a detailed, bold rope purfling (as well as rosette) just aside the maple binding, which you’ll find around both the body and fingerboard. The solid mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard are decorated with diamond fret inlays with a matching inlaid logo on the Martin-style headstock. Also on this guitar you’ll find open back tuners with an 18:1 gear ration, bone nut and saddle a 25.5” scale length, 1-3/4” nut width, ebony headplate and bridge, all a custom, hardshell, flat top case.

In the video below, you’ll likely be able to hear the incredible clarity and resonation of this OM40-R as Rich from Heartbreaker Guitars demos it for us. While the video is microphoned externally, this specific modelincludes onboard electronics by Stage Pro Element that can be utilized by amateurs and professionals alike.

Our honorable mentions start with thisLarrivée D-40 in Mahogany.  With the large Sitka Spruce top over this dreadnought body, this guitar has the quality you’d expect from aLarrivée from the ebony fingerboard to the maple purfling and accents.Much like the 3 series guitar we highlighted earlier, we have theLarrivée OM 03 in Mahogany. Inside isLarrivée’s tried-and-true X-Brace design, but on the back is a beautifully striped Mahogany which is simply breath taking. Last, but not least, is the Larrivee Custom 000.  This model is the smallest of the body styles we’ve looked at today and features the glowing Summer Sunset color pattern with the Sitka Spruce top. This model was part of a Fall release and is signed by Jean Larrivee himself. This specific model is a member of the 40 series and does include the newscalloped parabolic hybridbracing system. Combine that with the diamond inlays, cowboy purfling and engravedLarrivéetuners, this vintage style 000 is quite a guitar to finish up the available models.
