Hello friends! Big news! We have been a PRS Dealer for a few months now and the response has been incredibly positive from our Heartbreaker Community, with several already sold and many more on order. Another great benefit of being a Paul Reed Smith Dealer is getting to talk about any news that comes out on these Heartbreakers, and recently we have gotten some incredible news from our friends over at PRS!
The PRS team has been partnering with notable singer/songwriter/guitarist John Mayer to develop a new masterpiece! Based off of classic single coil guitars from the early sixties, the Silver Sky is the result of that collaboration!
This guitar features several distinctive characteristics, like the flipped PRS headstock, or the narrow fret mark wires (a nod to the classic style), and the distinct coloring on the body. The Silver Sky will be available four colors!

This beautiful John Mayer Signature Guitar has a lot of people talking, including some of the people who helped to develop it. One such person is Mayer's longtime friend and guitar tech Rene Martinez (who was also a tech for other notable players such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Prince, and another PRS Artist Carlos Santana) had this to say about the instrument, "the first thing I thought about was how it felt, especially the neck, and it just feels good. Playing all the way up and down the neck, bending the strings, everything works and feels right. As far as the pickups and the sound goes, it’s unique while sounding familiar, and there are five distinct tones – as a single-coil guitar should have…It’s a fun guitar to play."
Then, of course, there is John Mayer who the guitar was built for. He had this to say about the result of his collaboration with Paul Reed Smith Guitars, "It’s been a dream of mine for years to design a guitar that includes some of my favorite vintage specifications but with a modern spirit and aesthetic. After two years of study and refinement, the Silver Sky is my vision of what a reboot of the electric guitar should look and feel like." And if anyone should have a say about that, it would be Mr. Mayer.
And of course, the man himself, Paul Reed Smith, owner and founder of PRS Guitars, had this to say about the instrument, "Everything about this guitar has to work. It has to play in tune, stay in tune, not buzz, sound beautiful, have very good signal to noise ratio, and feel familiar and comfortable. By paying attention to all the details, we were able to create an instrument that John is very pleased with and that we are very proud of."
We could talk about this thing for days, and you could listen to others talk about it, and look at all the pictures, but obviously what really matters is the sound. How does this baby sound? Well, we have attached a few videos for you guys down below to enjoy. Hopefully it gives you the full appreciation for the greatness of this instrument!
So now we know what inspired this guitar, who inspired it, peoples reaction, and what it sounds like. Another question we always get asked about a guitar is how is it built? How does it hold up? What is the quality like. Well, Paul Reed Smith is well known for the quality in their instruments.
Obviously, they have poured all of that quality, knowledge, and craftsmanship into this new model. The Silver Sky is built with a care and precision that you can't beat, and that leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. If you are interested in seeing the full building process, check out the series of videos detailing the process.
The Silver Sky is available in four different colors:
The Silver Sky will ship with a commemorative case from the PRS factory in Maryland, USA and will also ship with a premium gig bag. They will ship from the factory on March 20th, 2018. We here at Heartbreaker will of course be carrying them in every available color and with a good quantity! Feel free to contact us about pre-ordering!
